EXPERT TIP: FitPAWS Advisor and Master Trainer Anthony Woerner PT and CCRP recommends:
To add Strength Exercises to your dogs workout program start with reps of 10 with goals of working up to 20 to 30 with good technique. Once the dog can complete 10 reps with ease, the exercise is made more challenging through intensity and positioning. Strength work can be done 3-5 x day/week. For a 3-day program, training is done every other day. For a 5-day, the 2 days off should not be in a row.
Balance/ stability and stretching activities can be done daily. Endurance and cardio work can be done every other day alternating with strength work. Strive for proper form by reading the Strength Exercise Cards below and watch our video. Start without weights in the K9FITvest to ensure form looks good, then add weights and strive for the same proper form. There are many strength activities you can do with your dog. Hopefully this list will give you some good ideas.
