An Interview with FitPAWS® and Dr. Kerry Fisher, DVM, CCRP
Q: Where did the inspiration for FitPAWS® equipment for pets first come from?
A: From our forward-looking customers who were originally using our human brand of fitness and rehab products for their canine rehab practices. As we learned more about similarities between human and canine physical therapy, we also realized there were big differences.
We spent a year in research and in 2010 launched the new FitPAWS® Canine Conditioning Equipment developed specifically for the canine market. The material is thicker and resistant to dog nails. The shapes of the balls are more conducive to a dog’s longer body.
Q: What do those in veterinary and canine rehabilitation fields like about FitPAWS® products?
A: According to Kerry Fisher, DVM, CCRP, a Colorado veterinarian specializing in canine rehabilitation and integrative medicine, “The products are user friendly, which means the client will enjoy working with their dog. Owners make the time to actually use the products. The variety of products allows for choice when recommending therapies. Also, FitPAWS is a great company to work with. All of the representatives are extremely helpful and want the best for each dog working with their equipment.”
Q: Why do you recommend using the FitPAWS® Peanut ball rather than just using my round ball?
A: From our research with the leading experts in canine rehab, we have learned that if a dog is working on a round ball, the dog is forced into an unnatural arched stance which is not good for its back or neck. It’s better to work your dog in a natural stance with a straight back and relaxed neck. You will also notice that both the dog and the handler have a better sense of control during each session on the Peanut or TRAX Peanut. The Peanut also has more training surface on top, a saddle dip for stretching, and the material is specifically designed to be nail resistant.
Q: How do dogs themselves respond to the equipment?
A: One of the best parts of working here is seeing the pure joy that dogs express, once they get the hang of how the FitPAWS equipment feels. The dogs absolutely love the undivided attention and positive reinforcement they get from their handlers, when working on the FitPAWS equipment.
We dog owners know that our dogs are happiest when they have a “job” to do. FitPAWS® products challenge dogs’ bodies AND minds!
Q: What to expect at a canine rehab event?
A: Veterinarian professionals will be able to explore the entire FitPAWS® product line and discover why FitPAWS is the leading brand for canine fitness and rehab equipment. Also, Canine Rehab Expert, Dr. Kerry Fisher, DVM, CCRP is often a guest in our booth to answer any questions about incorporating FitPAWS® Canine Conditioning Equipment into their existing veterinarian services for diagnostic, pre-surgery, post-surgery, behavioral, wellness and weight management protocols.
